U.S. Immigration: P Visa Category

U.S. Non-Immigrant Work Visas for Athletes & Performing Artists 
P-1A VISA CATEGORY:
ATHLETES (INDIVIDUALS OR PART OF A TEAM)

The P-1A visa is granted to foreign nationals to enter and stay in the U.S. temporarily if they are performing in an athletic competition or participating in competitions for a specific season provided they meet certain qualifications.
 
If the distinguished athlete is an individual he or she must be internationally recognized based on his or her individual achievements, whether performing individually or part of a U.S. team. The P-1A visa is also granted to members of an internationally recognized foreign team coming to the U.S. to participate in competitions. The P-1A visa is also granted to qualified professional or amateur athletes and coaches employed by U.S. teams. Support personnel and staff may obtain P-1S visa.
P-1B VISA CATEGORY:
MEMBERS OF ENTERTAINMENT GROUPS

The P-1B visa is granted to performing artist(s) or entertainer(s), who are members of a distinguished group which is recognized internationally for its achievements over the years in its category or genre and who is coming to the U.S. for temporary performances.

The majority of the members of the distinguished group, at least 75 percent of its members, must have worked together for at least one (1) year.

It is imperative to note that individual artists or entertainers are not eligible to enter, perform and stay temporarily in the U.S. under the P-1B visa category.
