Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program

Assisting Foreign Professionals, Workers, & Graduates with Immigration to Alberta

Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program

Permanent Residency in Alberta for Workers, Professionals, & Graduates
In general if you are a temporary foreign worker, a foreign national who received an employment offer, or have a work permit in Alberta, you can apply to be nominated by the Government of Alberta for permanent residence under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP). If you have a spouse, and/or dependent family members, they will be included in the same application. The decision to accept your application is made by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) offers options for skilled and semi-skilled workers who may be able to apply either on their own, or through their employers. Some foreign individuals are not eligible to apply under this immigration program such as clergy, elementary and secondary school teachers, professional athletes, dental laboratory bench workers, refugee claimants, or individuals involved in a federal appeal or removal/deportation process, live-in caregivers who are currently living in Canada, temporary foreign workers working and residing in a province other than Alberta, and international students studying in Canada and engaged in co-op work placements or internships as part of their study program.

Applicants under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) have the option to apply under several categories or streams.

STRATEGIC RECRUITMENT STREAM
Foreign nationals can apply on their own without an employer under one of three different category options:
  • Compulsory & Optional Trades Category: Applicants can qualify for nomination, if they are temporary foreign workers with valid trade certificate issued or recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT).
  • Engineering Occupations Category: Applicants who qualify for nomination are temporary foreign workers with Alberta work experience in an eligible engineering occupation.
  • Post-Graduate Workers Category: For applicants who have graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution in Alberta, holding a post-graduation work permit and are currently working in Alberta.

EMPLOYER DRIVEN STREAM
  • Skilled Worker Category: Foreign workers who have received a permanent full-time employment offer from an Alberta employer in an eligible skilled occupation can apply for nomination.
  • International Graduate Category: Foreign national students who graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada, have a post-graduation work permit, and have received a permanent full-time employment offer from an Alberta employer in an eligible occupation, can apply for nomination.
  • Semi-Skilled Worker Category: Individuals under this category can apply for nomination and includes temporary foreign workers who have received a permanent full-time employment offer from an Alberta employer in an eligible semi-skilled occupation.

SELF-EMPLOYED FARMER STREAM
Foreign nationals can qualify for nomination under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) if they can demonstrate they have the financial means and farm management experience to purchase and establish a farm in Alberta.
